Hokuyo Glass Ikebana dish for Japanese style flower arrangement/ or as an ash tray. Hand blown glass from 1970's in the Tsugaru vidro process which is a local traditional special procedure. II personally visited the factory in 1970 and was able to view the piece in its final stage of production. Well I had to have them both. There were two flaws I noticed and the gentlemen told me that sometimes we.

Have air bubbles that later develop and one is seen inside bowl and another small one that broke when it surfaced n see design was a limited design and now is a Very Hard To Find piece. The piece is in excellent condition. This is a large piece and due to the way the glass is produced, since the glass is about 1/2 thick. It is a very heavy piece. A matching vase is available which makes the combination a very rare combination.

All pieces are hand made/mouth blown glass. Similar style of pattern created to very small limited amount of pieces available. Each just one of a kind of piece. The Kokuyo Glass Company is located in the northern prefecture of Japans Tohoku region. Originally the development was found out by the glass blowers with Kokuyo Glass. The company started by manufacturing the thick glass as fishing net floats. By using this technique, Glass blowers learn to add colors by Layering the glass so it's in different levels. In the glass you'll see how the different colors blend and then maybe another layer above that which would be like streaks and then above that could be gold or silver leaf and another level of glass. The company isn't a very large company so pieces do get limited.
