The movement is mounted on a polished steel bedplate. Mechanically speaking, this machine is in perfect working order. Every piece of the mechanism has been painstakingly taken apart, thoroughly cleaned, polished and lubricated. This box has a good strong mainspring which easily powers the movement through the full programme before needing a re-wind.The Geneva stop-work is present (both male and female) and is working correctly making it impossible for over-winding to take place. The cylinder pins are in excellent shape. The comb has all of its original teeth and tips and is free from any old repairs. All of the steel spring dampers have been professionally replaced to eliminate any squeaks. The box still has its original tune sheet after 120 years and is in excellent condition. The start/stop and change/repeat controls work exactly as they should. The case is in very good condition inside and out and is a very rare example. Only the finest movements were housed in such ellaborate cases. A French polish would finish this case off very nicely. The ornate carrying handles are original as is the glass lid, which fits into place perfectly.
The case measures 21 inches wide by 7 1/2 inches deep by 6 1/2 inches high. The tunes themselves are very pleasant indeed. There is a very nice selection here and they are played exceptionally well.
